About Us

Fur Animal Rescue may also be known by the acronym “FUR.”
Who and What is “FUR?”

Fur Animal Rescue is a 501c3 non profit and state licensed rescue dedicated to finding homes for animals at the North Platte Animal Shelter.

We do that by evaluating the dogs and cats, creating and providing the pets with information tags for their kennel, taking pictures and videos for online networking and helping to link up potential adopters with pets in need.

We also rescue and provide vet care, foster homes and assistance rehoming for certain pets in need; such as those who are injured, ill, or those who are not acclimating well in the shelter environment.

A big impact

So much more than a shelter…

What we do is called ‘shelter rescue.’ Our city operates a city run facility, basically animal control with housing.

It is not a humane society or an adoption agency. The staff is small and unable to focus on adoptions – which is OUR priority as a rescue.

When we rescue from the shelter, the pet immediately goes to the vet for full vetting (as described below) and vet checkover.

They are then placed in an appropriate foster home where they are assessed and when the time is right, made available for adoption.

Fur Animal Rescue also rescues and provides vet care, foster homes and rehoming for animals in need within the community when we are able.

No Distance Is too Far

In order to prevent over population, the spread of disease and parasites and to ensure our rescues get the best start possible after being rescue – we ‘fully vet’ them.

‘Fully vetted’ means that the pet is spayed and neutered. The pet receives full vaccines including vaccinations for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza (for dogs) and vaccinations for Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia (for cats).

Dogs are heartworm tested and cats are tested for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FELV (Feline Leukemia Virus).

Both dogs and cats are treated for and given prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. Both are dewormed and treated for ear mites.

This is standard protocol for every single pet that Fur the Love of PAWS Rescues, and is done immediately after rescue.

The pet doesn’t even go to the foster home before every vet item is done.
